Meet the Key 3

Every pack needs a launch crew, and ours is three deep. They are called the Key 3, and their whole job is to keep Pack 301F chartered, funded, organized, and pointed at the next adventure so our Scouts can get on with the serious business of building rockets, racing derby cars, and eating their weight in campfire s'mores.

Jared Johnson — Chartered Organization Representative (COR)

Rotary Club
Jared is our link to the Rotary Club, the chartered organization that gives Pack 301F its home. He keeps our charter current, makes sure the pack and Rotary are rowing in the same direction, and quietly keeps the doors open behind the scenes. Rotary lives by "Service Above Self." Scouts do a good turn daily. Same idea, different uniform, which is exactly why this partnership works. Jared is an Eagle Scout.

Justin D. Hodson, CPI — Committee Chair

Justin runs the pack committee, otherwise known as the engine room: budgets, calendars, fundraisers, popcorn, recharter, and a genuinely heroic volume of permission slips. The mission is simple, which is that our Cubmaster and den leaders should never have to stop the fun to chase down a form. Justin is a professional investigator by trade, so if a Pinewood Derby car ever goes missing, the pack knows exactly who to call.

Josh O. Simar — Cubmaster

Josh is the voice at the front of the room: microphone in one hand, game plan in the other, and the loudest "Sign's up!" in Temecula. He leads our den leaders, runs pack meetings, hands out the belt loops and rank badges, and sets the tone for the whole pack. Loud when it should be loud, and dead silent the second the flags come in.

So what exactly is a Key 3?

Every Cub Scout pack has one, and it is always the same three seats: the Chartered Organization Representative, the Committee Chair, and the Cubmaster. Nobody outranks anybody. The COR connects the pack to its chartered organization, the Committee Chair runs the business side, and the Cubmaster leads the program the Scouts actually see and feel. When those three are talking, the pack hums.

Here is the secret nobody tells you at your first meeting: every leader on this page started out as a parent standing in the back of the room. No badge, no whistle, and no camping experience required. Den leaders, committee members, campout wranglers, snack heroes, there is a spot with your name on it. Grab any of the Key 3 at the next pack meeting and say "put me in."
